What Are Discount Dental Plans?

In general discount dental plans are a low cost alternative to tradional dental insurance. The cost of dental care protection can be more affordable with a discount dental plan because it doesn't cost as much per month as dental insurance.

In a discounted dental plan, such as Ameriplan or Careington the "network" of providers have agreed to provide the services at a discounted rate to members of the plan. As a consumer (member), all you have to do is present his or her membership card when visiting the provider, and the dentist quotes a price for services rendered.

An example of savings:
1. Bridge work quoted for $3,100 without and discount. WITH the discount, the cost was $2,200.
2. A crown without a discount: $850. WITH a discount: $545.
As you can see there can be significant savings using a discount dental plan! By the way - these are MY personal experiences.

Remember, a discounted dental plan is NOT insurance, and because they're not, there are no exclusions, no paperwork to fill out either for you or the dentist ( the dentists LOVE this fact!) and typically a "family plan" covers the entire family regardless of age.
